Our goals for next semester include expanding the Compost to K12 program to more schools. This program is currently free to Bartow County Schools but comes at a high cost for us to operate. Each additional school costs roughly $4000 per school for acquiring waste receptacles, signage, state licensing, and transportation of the kitchen scraps for a full year.
By donating you are helping build a more sustainable food system for students in Bartow County and the surrounding area. Our Compost for K12 program closes the loop for food waste by creating fresh compost from kitchen scraps which are supplied to school and community garden projects. Our Farm to Foodbank program brings fresh, local produce to area foodbanks serving a Title 1 school district. And our Growing Farmers program provides hands on educational opportunities for students to engage with agriculture.
Our Spring Semester 2024 results include:
*Decreased dumpster usage at Red Top Middle and Clear Creek Elementary by 50% during our pilot Compost to K12 program
*Diverted over 12 tons of food waste from the local landfill during the pilot Compost to K12 program
*Increased the chickens at Cloverleaf Elementary through donations of laying hens
*Help installed new beds and re-vamped the school garden at Clear Creek Elementary School
*Taught at the Chicken Club meetings at Cloverleaf Elementary School
*Spoken at school assemblies, STEM engagements, Wellness Meetings, and the RESA STEM forum.
*Installed VEGO (TM) raised beds for the Boys and Girl's Clubs
and much more!
